Intel Salt Bay Android phone prototype benched





Over the past year or so Intel shipped around quite a few phone prototypes to its R&D centres around the globe, including Salt Bay and Red Hook Bay devices. Red Hook Bay benchmarks appeared a year ago and the device was Medfield based, but nothing became of it.

Geeksphone Revolution Specs Revealed





Last month Spanish smartphone maker Geeksphone teased an upcoming device called the Geeksphone Revolution that is reportedly capable of running Android or Firefox OS. Back then little information was revealed regarding it with only the teaser message “The revolution is coming.

Yup, the upcoming Geeksphone Revolution, a handset that'll run either Google's Android or Mozilla's Firefox OS, uses an Intel processor. Specifically Geeksphone Revolution will employ a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor when it ships in the first quarter of 2014, the Spanish company said Friday.

Intel's tablet processor shipments for 2014 are expected to reach only 30 million units, accounting for about 10% of total tablet processor shipments and lower than the company's forecasted 40 million units as demand for Windows 8.

Intel launched its Bay Trail-M ultra low voltage processors for netbooks and mobile devices over the weekend. According to CPU World the new mobile CPUs, branded this time as Celeron and Pentium, can manage twice the CPU performance, and up to three times faster graphics.
